Homemade White Castle Burgers <p>(AKA Elf Sized Burgers)

Submitted By: Mrs. Claus
Prep Time: 3.5 hours
Servings: 4

12 slider buns or dinner rolls
1 lb. ground beef
1 TBSP Better Than Bouillon (Beef)
1/4 TSP garlic powder
1/4 CUP(S) minced dried onion
9 slices American cheese
1/4 CUP(S) water
1/8 TSP salt
1/8 TSP pepper

In a large bowl add the ground beef, Better Than Bouillon Beef, and garlic powder.

Mix together until well combined.

Line a 9x13 baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.

Add the ground beef mixture and spread to the sides until it forms a flat even layer.

Using a knife, cut into 12 equal squares (3rows x 4rows: about the same size as the dinner rolls).

Using the end of a wooden spoon, create 5 holes in each patty. (I like to make the holes in the form of the dots on a die - 4 corners and middle; depending on fat content, you may need to wipe the end occasionally.)

Place in the freezer for 3 hours.

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

Remove ground beef baking sheet from the freezer and break patties apart.

Add ¼ cup water to the bottom of the baking sheet, sprinkle the onions evenly covering the bottom of the pan.

Place the frozen beef patties directly on top of the onions and water.

Sprinkle the ground beef with salt and pepper

Place them in the oven and allow beef to steam cook for 10 minutes.

As the burgers are cooking, break each slice of cheese into quarters and set aside.

After the 10 minute baking time, take the baking sheet out of the oven and place the bottom of each dinner roll on a hamburger patty.

Place the tops of the dinner rolls in a staggered pattern over the bottom pieces of the dinner rolls.

Place the baking sheet back in the oven and let them cook for 3 more minutes.

Take the baking sheet back out of the oven.

Use a spatula to scoop up each meat patty with onions and bottom bun attached, and add 3 of the quartered cheese slices on each slider.

Place the top bun on and serve sliders immediately.

Special Notes:

This recipe yields 12 burgers and elves usually eat about 3 of them in a sitting making the 4 serving size listed above.

Some may wish to add additional condiments such as pickles/ketchup/mustard...

You may wish to use fresh onions; if so about 1 cup will be appropriate. We use the dried ones as most elves do not like the texture of fresh onions and the dried ones help keep the flavor.
